1- Buy your pot

Bisque is clay that has already been fired (put into the kiln, or “clay oven”, once). It’s porous and easy to paint, but its not quite a finished ceramic piece. Our bisque blanks are made by hand with stoneware clay. After firing they will be food, microwave ,and dishwasher safe.
2- Paint your pot

Underglaze is a paint designed specifically to withstand the high temperatures in the kiln. For tips and tricks on application keep scrolling!
3- We’ll finish it up!
-
We dip the pots in a bucket of clear glaze, wipe of the bottoms and put them in the kiln (ceramic oven) for 24 hours. The pieces are brought up to 2,100 degrees and come out shiny and food safe! Emails will be sent out for pick up 4-6 weeks after the event.
Tips and Tricks
White clay
We use a plain, white clay for our blanks. Use this to your advantage and create interesting patterns that leave the background exposed, or paint your whole piece!
Panting the inside
We coat everything in a clear glaze. You can leave the inside of your cup or mug blank and it will be white, or you can add a design! Keep in mind not to apply tricky colors too thick on the interior.
Color mixing
Underglaze is unique in that it generally acts like acrylic paint when it comes to mixing colors. Use the provided plates and avoid mixing colors in the pots (we recycle left over underglaze!)
Tricky colors
Darker, more opaque colors (like red, dark blue, dark green, black, purple and orange) can cause textures after firing if applied too thick. Keep the applications of these to one coat and you’ll be fine!
Multiple coats
For lighter, less opaque colors apply 2-3 coats if you’d like a vibrant color payoff. You can also use this effect to your advantage if you are trying to achieve a water color look.
Write all over it
Pencils are your best friend! Use them to trace the provided stencils or draw out your own design. The graphite will burn off in the kiln like it was never there to begin with.
